How to change a Quadra or HK1RBOX to a new backend server

Owners of Inovato Quadras and N0LSR Design HK1RBOX have a build in easy way to switch the backend server. The images from Inovato and then offered by me have a build in Quadra Ham Apps Installer. This installer loads a software list from the Inovato website. Michael from Inovato added today three scripting files to this software list to simplify the whole backend server switching. One is to switch to Open HamClock Backend (OHB), one to switch to hamclock.com and a third one to switch back to the original backend if that should become necessary.

It is your choice which backend you want to use. Open soured OHB or closed hamclock.com. Both are great solutions, but I prefer a community project with open source hosted in a high reliable datacenter.

Prerequisites:

  • You own an Inovato Original (legacy) Quadra, am Inovato Quadra4k or a N0LSR Design HK1RBox. It has the original Image installed obtained from Inovato or N0LSR Design.

  • You have upgraded to Version 4.22 of HamClock.

  • You have a monitor, keyboard and mouse (temporarily) connected to your device.

Then follow these easy steps:

1.) Exit HamClock through the “lock” menu to get to the desktop.

2.) Start the Quadra Ham Apps Installer

3.) A window will open and asks you to enter the Quadra password which is 1n0v@t0 (these are zeros after the n and t).

4.) Another window will open with three choices at the top of the list.

OHB is for Open HamClock Backend, HK.COM is for hamclock.com and the third one (ORIG-BE) is to undo changes to your hosts file and switch back to the original Clear Sky Institute server. At the same time it also clears the cache to be ready for new data.

Select one option and click on “Install”. That’s it.

5.) The installer will run. It will display the success message at the end and then close after a couple seconds.

6.) After the installer is done, start HamClock back up by clicking on the HamClock icon on the task bar.
